Uplift Indonesian Children from Stunting

“The Future lies in the hands of youth and children”, they say. Then, what about the future of a country that has around 9 million children experiencing stunting?

Stunting is a condition of growth failure in children (both body and brain growth) due to malnutrition for a long period of time. Thus, the child has a shorter stature than normal children his/her age along with a delay in thinking.

We cannot neglect the fact that around 20 million Indonesians still live below the poverty line. This certainly has an impact on the diet which ultimately affects the nutritional condition of Indonesian children. Therefore, based on data, approximately 9 million Indonesian children are stunted!

Indonesian Child Nutrition Operation Program (OGAI) initiated by Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) is an attempt to solve this matter. We are aiming to upgrade the nutrition of the nations’ children to be more balanced, to create a healthier and more intelligent future generation.

Here are what we are going to do during the OGAI program:

1. All Children Have the Right to Eat Healthy

Providing nutritious staple food by following balanced nutrition guidelines for children aged >2 years – 15 years. Followed by nutrition education. Foods that will be distributed include rice, corn, potatoes, and nutritious side dishes.

2. Supplementary Feeding

Providing supplementary food for under-fives who are malnourished, such as Milk, Biscuits, Green Beans, Brown Sugar, Tempe, Eggs and Fruits.

3. 1 Million Liters of Milk Movement

An action to provide milk intake for children, especially in national stunting priority areas. Milk is an important intake because it provides protein, multivitamins, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium to selenium which are good for children.

4. School Kitchen

An action to provide and educate about good nutrition for school age children. Among the actions are conducting education related to the selection of School Food Snacks, Balanced Nutrition Guidelines, “What’s in My Plate” Contents, Packaging Labels, and Safe-Consumed Food.
